Urge user posted image Christmas break had proven to be absolutely horrible, what with his mother returning ten years after leaving him and his siblings with his grandparents only to leave once more. Felix didn't understand. She said that she wanted him, that he was a good kid...her "good boy". That's what she had told him at least. It was all his father's fault! He scared her away and somehow convinced her that they didn't need her, he just knew it!

Angry and unable to sleep, Felix paced around the common room with a ton of pent up energy. He needed to punch something, not that he really ever knew how. It was a completely new feeling for him. Picking up one of the candle holders and throwing it through the window. He stopped for a moment, frozen in place as he stared at the hole. Did he just-..He just broke something. He felt guilty, of course.. but he also began to feel a bit better. Perhaps all of the years hiding under a bed instead of causing trouble was silly. Oh, he would remember that.

IdeasNo matter how many times Inna experienced Christmas in the USA, she would never be used to it. While the whole family mass-relocated when she was only five, the young student could still remember how things were in Russia. Christmas was quieter because their estate had been outside of Moscow. Now they lived in Manhatten. A convenient city, but one that didn't know the meaning of silence. Inna sat in the corner of the common room, almost hidden in the shadows with her history book and a cup of tea. Though her attention wasn't on the book. For one, she hadn't bothered to light her wand. She was too busy watching Felix pace around in an absurd manner. Not that people weren't entitled to, but it was most unlike him. Felix was normally quiet, reserved, intelligent, or so Inna had noticed. But this Felix was different. It was as if a switch had flipped. The final straw seemed to be when he picked up a candle holder and tossed it through the window. Inna's eyes widened in shock as she stared at the hole. But then she smirked. Something had surely happened to bring this about, the boy was, visibly, the epitome of 'stress!' But it also meant he was coming out of his shell. If this continued in the right direction, there was hope for the boy. Sure, it started as a candle holder through the window, but it could grow. Pretty soon, Felix would be battling off those who stood in his way. Unleashing his fury against those who would dare upset him. Inna stood slowly from her spot and placed her teacup on the table nearby. She took a few paces towards him before raising her hands and clapping softly. She addressed him in a calm tone, but one that gave away how proud she was of his misdeed. "I didn't think you had it in you to commit such an act. Normally I'd admonish the destruction of school property without purpose, but we can always place the blame on somebody else and make it worthwhile." Inna paused for a long second before adding, "Why the sudden change in demeanor?"

Urge user posted image Everything was spinning, the room, his life,.. everything. Felix felt that his entire world was falling apart, as if he had no control over it at all. His mother was gone, again. His father didn't seem to care about that, and neither did his siblings. He felt alone and scared and- and angry! So angry, all of the time! Even when he stared at the hole in the window he felt angry about being so guilty.

That feeling quickly changed to confusion when Felix heard soft clapping coming from the other side of the room. Inna, and she seemed strangely.. proud of him? He never NOT got along well with her, or anybody else for that manner, usually sticking to the sidelines but he knew that she was trouble. "What's it matter to you?" he asked in a tone that was far too bitter to come from him. Was this who he was now; a bitter, angry, destructive person?

Still, she was there and she asked... So after looking back at the hole and then walking over to the fireplace with a pissy look on his face he finally answered, "I feel like everything is going wrong. Like.. I have no say in anything that happens to me" Felix ripped up a piece of parchment that someone had left, crumpled it, and threw it into the fire to watch it burn up like the life he thought he knew.

IdeasIt was delightful. Even the initial response Felix gave Inna for her words was much harsher than normal. Normally, Inna would have been extremely unhappy to be spoken to in such a way. But in this case, she was more than willing to overlook it. Inna didn't respond to his irritating question. Instead, she simply raised an eyebrow, clearly still expected a response. The gates opened up soon enough. Inna eyed his movements carefully as Felix made his way to the fireplace, hanging on his every word. She watched the parchment he threw in burn slowly. Control. He desired control, whether he was aware of it or not. If Inna were one to make silly bets, she'd be willing to wager something had happened to cause this. Something very recent. "So what you desire is control?" Inna asked the question in a soft tone. Raising her voice would possibly prove detrimental and cause the boy to just close up again. Then Inna would get nowhere. No, she had to be careful how she went about this. Patience had never been her strong suit, though. But she'd just have to deal with it. "Control over your own life. Control over what you do, what decisions you make."Inna paused for a moment, and then looked at the ball of parchment burning up in the fire. "Think of your life like that parchment you threw in. Now that it's been thrown in the fire, it's doomed to burn up entirely. Or, you can take action, put the fire out, and show whoever put you in the flames, to begin with, that you're the one in control."

Urge user posted image Before Felix even really knew it he was answering Inna's questions. No thought or hesitation, just a simple answer to her question; "Yes". He looked down at the rest of the parchment, crumpling it up into a bigger ball than before and tossing it in. That was was a lot more fun to watch burn. You could see the edges crumple in and darken in color as the flames engulfed it.

That's what made Inna's analogy so perfect. Felix was transfixed by the paper, at first not knowing exactly why, but then she told him how he was the paper burning in the fire around him. He needed to extinguish it before it burned and charred him. Sitting there for a moment, his eyes shifting to the floor in front of the fire, he thought. What was Inna's game plan here? What was her goal?...Did it even matter if she could give him what he longed for?

Standing up with a determined look on his face, Felix turned and walked toward her. "What did you have in mind?" he asked seriously. It was time for do or die, go big or go home. He crossed his arms over his chest as he waited on her response. Never had he ever thought that he would conspire with her.. or really even have a conversation for that matter.
