user posted image If there was one thing about being blind that Oliver didn’t like, it was his dependence on others for him to get around, more importantly for him to do his job. As one might imagine, if your desk was in the same place for 3 years and suddenly it was shifted forward, you might jam your knee into it- which Oliver did. The hard wood of his desk stood sturdy against his unsuspecting knee, a light yelp mixing in with the bang of the collision.

It was alright though. Sometimes there were new people who weren’t sure where everything went. It just took a little getting used to. Nothing new. Cautiously Oliver found his chair, a breath of relief escaping him as he relaxed and was ready to start the day- only everything on his desk was wrong. His pens weren’t on the right, his books were nowhere that he felt... where was he? ”Laura? Come here please” he called to his secretary, only to make sure that he was in the right office.

A few moments later Laura sent an urgent letter down to Marjory, the woman she knew to be the best at what she did. Oliver wasn’t upset per se, but it deeply impacted his work to have everything messed up. Mostly though he felt extremely self conscious about it all. If he hadn’t lost his sight then he wouldn’t have had to worry about being in the wrong room or objects not being where they were suppose to. He understood that mistakes were made, but the reminder of just how feeble he could be made his morning slide downward. He needed some coffee.

A knock on the door brought Olly out of his self pity and made him sit up a little straighter. ”Come in!” He stood up from his desk since it currently served no use to him, and made his way in front of the door by using the desk as a guide.

Office Job

Marjory was just dealing with a small infestation of Bundimums in the basement -luckily they hadn't gotten too big yet and nothing had started rotting- when she received a message from Laura. Apparently somebody had moved everything around in a Mr. Joyner's office. Marjory couldn't think who would have done that. It certainly wasn't her and she was almost sure it wasn't Johnson. The man was a cretin, but surely he would have been fired by now if he was in the habit of rearranging employees' offices willy-nilly, especially a blind employee's. Perhaps it was another new hire. Or maybe some pixies had gotten loose somehow. Roy had snuck a whole cage of pixies home when he was twelve. They'd very nearly destroyed the apartment. Marjory still remembered walking in the front door with a bag of groceries and seeing her nephew try to pull her mangled bedframe out of the oven while two little blue pixies made a determined attempt to tie him up with his own shirt. That had been the last time Roy had brought home any pets without permission.

But she was supposed to be working, not reminiscing. Marjory shot a scouring charm at the last Bundimum (or what she hoped was the last one) and hurried off to Mr. Joyner's office. She knocked and was told to come in, so come in she did. She stopped in the doorframe and surveyed the office. The man with the shaded glasses must have been who she was meant to see.

"Hello. Mr. Joyner?" she confirmed. "Marjory Franklin here. I'm told you're having a bit of disarrangement. If you'll tell me how everything is supposed to be, I'll just go ahead and put it right for you. The biggest issue was the desk, yes?"

She pulled out her wand and flicked it in the direction of the desk. A pink crocheted cushion with lacy edges appeared underneath each desk leg. Now the desk wouldn't scratch up the floors when Marjory pushed it back into its place, wherever its place may have been.

Oh, no Bootlegging wasn't exactly the most difficult job in the world when Wizards weren't banned from drinking liquor. It was the No-Majs they had to think about. And Carmen hated that bit. Hated it. So as soon as she could get away from that side of things, she took the chance. That said, she was at home when Oliver's secretary sent her a note, asking her to come down to MACUSA because something was wrong, and Oliver needed her help.

Panic set in immediately, of course, in part because she didn't understand, but also because of how he'd been blinded in the first place. She didn't trust anybody around him besides his mother, really, and she took off immediately to help him. Carmen never apparated directly into his office, as that scared even her on a normal day, so instead went through the lobby to reach him. When she made it to the doorway, she was ready to ask questions, but someone else was already there.

Torn between anger and confusion, she took a step inside before quietly raising her best attempt at a question: "Umm... Olly?"

user posted image The sound of something moving around the desk caused Oliver to step back, gripping onto the window ledge to regain his bearings. He obviously hadn’t thought the situation through very well because it wasn’t as if he could just tell people where his things should be, he just knew through constantly having been there for so long. Nothing was ever out of place, ever, so this? This was throwing him through a serious loop. If it weren’t for the window and the woman’s aura, he wouldn’t have even known which direction he was facing. Where the door was located was a whole other manner.

Oliver’s secretary was a lot smarter than Oliver was on that moment because it didn’t even cross his mind to ask for her. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to, he just felt all different kinds of lost and didn’t want to ask Marjory for the kind of help he felt too proud to admit he needed. But there Carmen stood and his entire body relaxed.

”My office is rearranged. I don’t know where anything is” he told her, reaching a hand out for her since the window ledge felt like a good place to stay. ”This is Marjory and I have to admit..” his voice moved to a whisper where only Carmen could hear. ...I have no clue what to tell her”. As soon as the desk was in place and he could find his chair, which was moved to a corner of the room, he could find proper placement, but it was nothing that he could do on his own.
