Can I have the job? Please? user posted image The years leading up to this point in Keegan's life was... well, it wasn't what he might have expected. Nearly flunking out of Ilvermorny, not being offered a job with his Uncle OR MACUSA were just a few tragic events that lead him to the PR Department in hopes of finally getting away from the no-maj police department. Not that he didn't exactly dislike it, he just didn't really care too much what people did with their time, illegal or not.

Hearing about the job in the newspaper, Keegan tweaked his resume a little... and by a little he completely lied. Instead of saying that he worked at a no-maj police department, he wrote that he worked PR at the wizarding hospital. Nothing that he couldn't bullshit. Of course if he did get the job, which didn't seem very likely, he knew that Néall would cover for him. He was always great like that. sucker.

Keegan walked into the office where he was told his interview would be a good ten minutes early and wearing his best clothes. He really wanted to make a good impression, if only to prove his family wrong when they said he would never amount to anything. He could amount to things!... it just took him a little while..

Oh you have no idea. Jack had left Max in the very capable hands of his nanny, and had considered apologizing for yet again leaving him home alone after everything that happened. But he was nearly eleven now. He'd grown used to it. So it was off to work at MACUSA she went, prepared for a day riddled with interviews of people she would definitely end up hating. But no matter. They would end up being mere flunkies within the PR department, and she likely could hand them off to Barrett without him complaining too much. They all knew how President Picquery was fond of Jack, and how Jack had only given up the Chief of Staff position the previous year in order to make her own bid for the office that her mother figure of sorts, Seraphina, was going to be forced to abandon. It wasn't a monarchy in America, but it may as well have been. Jack had no intentions of losing.

She waited until precisely noon to stand up and walk out into the lobby of sorts where the candidates had been waiting. Thankfully, she'd had a break before this next one, because she was pretty sure she wouldn't have had the patience anymore. The last one was decent enough, but a complete kiss-up, and she knew they would drive her insane. So she opened her door, glanced down at her list, and back up. "Keegan? Come in."

She didn't wait for him to stand or follow before turning back into her office, sitting down once more behind her desk and gesturing to the chair across from her. "Take a seat," she continued once he had joined her. "Why don't you just start by telling me about yourself?"

Can I have the job? Please? user posted image Okay, so all of the people waiting along with Keegan looked.. qualified. A hell of a lot more qualified than him. He really had to bring his A-bullshitting-game because frankly, he was far out of his league there. Hearing his name, he looked up to see an absolutely gorgeous woman turn and enter her office. Hot. No sillyness. This could be fun" he thought, letting the nerves subside and some cockiness in.

As Keegan sat down in the chair, he realized that this woman was really about getting straight to the point. Noting that, he gave her a friendly smile before speaking. "Well, I work at St. Ignatius as a PR currently. Looking for somewhere a bit more.. exciting" he told her, not bothering with any of the wishy washy stuff others would probably talk about. She didn't care whether he had or dog or enjoyed skiing in the mountains. It was a job interview, not a dating service... unfortunately.

Oh you have no idea. Admittedly, she was only half paying attention to the man across from her, figuring he would be just like the others. But then he spoke and she looked up from her list. Interesting. The smile was charming enough, and she had to admit, he was good-looking. Almost sinfully so, in his interview suit. And had he chosen that last word pointedly? She couldn't tell. People always tried to flirt and trick their way into the president's inner circle. Into the future president's circle. But this man just wanted a job. So she toned down the hackles that had raised unintentionally.

"Interesting." Jack tilted her head, bright eyes observing him. He didn't seem like the type to squirm under strange interview questions. Best to get straight to the big guns. "What's the most difficult story you've had to spin so far? What did you do about it?

Can I have the job? Please? user posted image Oh those beautiful eyes, staring at him in the manner that would probably make most men squirm but not him. A smirk rose from from the side of his mouth for less than a split second and he looked down and chuckled a bit in an attempt to play it off as a thought from a memory.

Looking back up at the interviewer, Keegan rolled through the story he had made up in his head; something intense but not so big that it seemed unreal. "Well, this woman passed away from a simple potion mix up. Families were suing, people were distraught. The papers were getting wind of it so I told them that it wasn't actually a healer error but a patient. She just had a bad reaction to the potion was all". Nailed it. He thought, trying his best to seem more friendly than cocky, but man was it becoming hard. He had a role to play, and he'd be damned if he fucked that up. His smile continued to stay friendly as he shifted forward in his seat, leaning closer to her. "You know, I don't believe I caught your name" he said, hoping that maybe some banter would keep her away from the questions her knew he couldn't answer... at least believably.

Oh you have no idea. An eyebrow lifted as he looked down, and stayed up as he spoke. That is, until she started to smile. It was slow, and one that, in another situation, could have been sensual. But it wasn't right now. If he interpreted it that way, who cared? She meant it to be dangerous. She knew the right order to do this. She pushed her chair back a little, crossing one leg artfully over the other, her pencil skirt nearly protesting. Her hands curled around her knee. And then, only then did she reply.

"My name is Jack Stasey. I would be willing to bet everything I own that you know exactly who I am. But far be it for me to tell you what you do know. Let me tell you what you do not know." The smile grew a bit more devious. "You do not know a damn thing about my industry because if you did, you'd know that lying when the records prove otherwise will get you nowhere. You would know that the easiest way to do it is to instead either pick a scapegoat and fire them, or to blame the patients for giving false information. For lying about their condition or their allergies or whatever else. An accident? Nobody believes that. Not after a murder."

She waited, curious to see if he would start sweating. "Now why don't you tell me why you're here. Because you sure as hell do not work in P.R."

Can I have the job? Please? user posted image The smile, though beautiful, was certainly not a good sign. His features didn't falter, but he didn't check the woman out like he usually would have when she folded her legs. Then she began to call him out on his bullshit and he closed his eyes as he scrunched his face up. "Nail it" he absolutely did not. He was called out and he had no choice but to just be honest, well.. honest enough certainly.

Clearing his throat, Keegan looked back up at the moment after a moment of completely awkward silence. "Alright. I do not nor have I ever worked in P.R." he started, shrugging his shoulders in a "you caught me" type of manner. Taking in a deep breath, he continued, "I've been trying to get a job at MACUSA because frankly, my family thinks that I can't do it. I have never bull shit during an interview before and I seriously doubt there'd be a second time after this... but I need this job. Besides, I'm already learning so much!"

His smile diminished, Keegan's face was full of honesty and a hint of regret. Man, he almost wished he hadn't gone to the interview. He sat back in the chair a bit, waiting for her to kick him out. Hell, he'd have left already if he wasn't so desperate for his family's approval... for whatever reason.

Oh you have no idea. Jack blinked at him across the table. Well, that was blunt. Honesty almost always won out with her, but it greatly depended on who was offering it. And this man should have meant nothing. But the mention of family? That changed things. "Well," she mused, her lips thinning into a line. Was it mad? It was an utterly mad idea. Stuff and nonsense. And it was fucking genius. "I cannot offer you a job at MACUSA."

She reached into a drawer, drawing out a lengthy piece of parchment and a quill that rapidly began writing for her. "Now, what I can do," she leaned forward on her arms, eyeing him across the desk, "is offer you this non-disclosure agreement in exchange for a far, far better position. One that will undoubtedly impress your family. Prove them wrong, even. I can assure you, you'll want to consider this." She picked the parchment up again, passing it across to him with a regular quill. "Now either you sign this, or you go back to whatever it is you actually do, and continue letting them see you as a disappointment."

Can I have the job? Please? user posted image Keegan really shouldn't have been surprised with the fact that he wasn't offered the job. He got caught flat out lying to try and get it, and honestly he'd be surprised if he ever got a job doing anything in the magical world again. Blacklisted, was it called? Yeah, certainly he'd be blacklisted.

Standing up to leave, the next thing Jack said kept his attention, an eyebrow raising first at her, then the parchment. "better position"? "impress your family"? Maybe he should have read over the agreement, or at least skimmed it, but he knew that he was going to sign that piece of paper even if he had. Picking up the quill, he leaned over the desk and signed his name on the parchment, setting the quill down before sitting down in the chair. "So what is this mysterious offer?" he asked, picking up a leg and letting it lay sideways with the ankle on the opposite leg's knee. He intertwined his fingers and set them in his lap as he waited,

Oh you have no idea. Her eyebrows lifted almost comically, but she reined them in immediately as he sat down. That.. was oddly simple. Alright, then. "Well, if you do indeed know who I am, then you know that I have made my presidential bid. Last fall, that is. After my father's horrific and well-deserved thrashing in the last election, it's my turn. And I'm going to do it right this time. However, as a woman, and a young one at that, it is very difficult to overcome what my father so carelessly left behind. Mind you, I'm the one that brought him down. So there's always been a solid chance."

She shrugged one shoulder, taking the parchment and letting her magic take it across the room and lock it up in her safe. "I don't live by chance, Mr. O'Heaghra. I live with purpose and drive and while you may have neither of those things, I'm going to offer you a different route. One that even your family might buy if you can behave and play your cards well enough. I am interested in creating a fake position here at MACUSA. One where you do not have to do a damn thing, and thus you cannot make any grievous mistakes that will land the whole of our government in the gutter. I am interested in paying you an almost inordinate sum to make an unbreakable vow. One that would restrict you from telling the truth about this new job. One that would set in stone an agreement between you and me, wherein you pretend - publicly and well - as though we are in a perfectly normal, albeit politically ideal, relationship. You attend functions. You play nice with my half-brother and win the people over. Before the voting happens, you propose. Not really, but we'll get a ring. We'll do interviews. You'll pretend you find my laugh charming and my policies perfect. I'll pretend you didn't look me over when you walked in and that your smirk isn't endlessly irritating, which I'm sure it must be. And then when I win this election, if you've played nice, you can stay. You can impress the hell out of your family. But if you so much as risk my campaign, you will be gone. Back to whatever shoddy excuse for a life you must've had before this interview."

She stuck a hand out over the table. They would need another person to make the vow actually happen, but she'd see to that. "Now. Do we have a deal?"

Can I have the job? Please? user posted image Keegan listened to Jack’s offer intently and when his eyebrows couldn’t scrunch any more in confusion, he placed both feet on the floor with his elbows on his knees. She had such a way with words that she made him feel like it was a great idea as well as made him feel lowlier than the low. How was that even possible?

Looking at her for a moment, her hand stretched out over her desk, Keegan just began to laugh in disbelief. He sat up straight while scratching the side of his mouth with his thumb. ”I am not sure what you think I do, but I’m not an escort” he told her, shaking his head as the laughter subsided. He bit his tongue, thinking about the proposition for a little while longer. Sure he wasn’t one who would resort to prostitution to gain money... but she was offering a hell of a lot more than just a good lay. Hell , she wasn’t even offering the lay yet.

Staring at the ground for a minute, Keegan looked up at her once more. ”Okay, I’m intrigued. I want specifics. How much am I getting paid? What is this fake job? And when we have sex, do I get paid for that as well? Because that seems a little prostituty to me.”

Oh you have no idea. Jack dropped her hand onto the top of the table, thankfully without as much of a thump as she feared as soon as she left her arm relax. He was... laughing? Laughing? This was the best plan she'd ever had and he wanted to make it a joke? This wasn't going to work. He wasn't going to work. But then he decided to consider it. Jack frowned at him, her face falling even further at the painfully forward question.

"Three things. First, there will be no sex. If something doesn't happen in public, it doesn't happen at all. It doesn't have to, and that's not even remotely what I just suggested. Second, I'll give you a hundred grand up front. With a bonus if you don't screw it up. To be given on, say, the night of the inauguration. If you don't have appropriate attire or whatever else, I will cover that when I deem it necessary. Third, I'm adding another rule: there are things we do not discuss. My family is not a conversation topic unless it comes up at interviews, and if it does, I will handle it. I will not pry into your life. It's not necessary. We don't need to be close - we don't even have to get along, provided other people think we do. Any more questions?"

Can I have the job? Please? user posted image Taking it all in, Keegan stared at Jack for a moment. She was completely serious! A hundred grand? There was so much that he could do with that money, not to mention how awesome it would be rubbing the “relationship” in peoples faces. It seemed crazy... but just crazy enough for him to want in.

”No talking about family, no need for romance..” he reiterated standing up once more and buttoning the bottom button of his suit. ”You have yourself a deal”. With that, he stretched out his hand to finally accept that handshake she had offered earlier. It wasn’t the job he went there for, but Merlin knows he was leaving with a better one.

Oh you have no idea. Jack stood, brushing her hands down the sides of her narrow skirt, and eyed him curiously before extending her hand once more. "Perfect." Her grip might have been a touch too firm, but she released him quickly. "Stay put."

Stepping around the desk, she wrenched open the door, looking around the room at her other candidates. After a moment, her eyes settled on a young Hispanic man with fire in his eyes rather than fear. "You. What's your name?" She waited until his shock blew over and he provided it. "You're hired. Come see me tomorrow morning at eight. If you are not on time, I will see to it that you never again get an interview with this department." And when he nodded and the others let their shock wash over them, Jack slammed the door shut again.

"Now, you," she addressed Keegan once more, stopping to sit on the front of her desk. Well within his personal space after he'd stood up. He was the one who had used the s-word, which meant it was already on his mind which meant she could use it to her advantage if she had to. But she also needed to make sure he could keep his mind on track, which meant getting him used to her presence like this. "You will tell your family that you now have an impressive and executive position, working for the president herself. Your job title is now International Advisor. That boy I just hired will do research on foreign dignitaries and present it to you. You'll do nothing at all with that information beyond passing it on to President Picquery. If they do a bad job, I'll hire someone else. If it comes up in interviews, we'll quickly change the subject and point out that we simply cannot discuss secure matters with the press. If they ask you for a private interview, we'll figure that out on a case by case basis. If there's something you don't know the answer to... just ask," she concluded, her tone calming to be almost warm.

"We should start right away. With the way the world is and the violence increasing on the streets, press sooner than later is ideal. It'll be remembered if it starts now. So we're going to make this unbreakable vow of secrecy and of assurance for you, and then, Keegan, we're going out to lunch."

Can I have the job? Please? user posted image As Jack moved over to Keegan he couldn’t help but let some of that “annoying” smirk appear on his face while he looked her over. Damn she was really good looking. He nodded as he listened to her, making a point to keep eye contact with her to let her know that he was taking it seriously... no matter how much he wanted to fuck her. ”That sounds good to me” he told her all businesslike.

As her voice softened Keegan took a tiny step toward her, leaning his hip against the desk next to her. ”Who’s going to do the vow?” he asked curiously, though honestly he was just thinking about food. Mmm, food. He would kill for a chicken salad sandwich right then. He brushed some of the hair off of her shoulder lightly, his face less smirky and more charming. ”and how long have we been dating?” he asked, trying to get a feel for the character he’d be portraying.
